What an exciting term it has been so far! The students in 3/4E have really enjoyed working through the Discovery unit in inquiry. They have had a great time experimenting and making new discoveries. This group was hard at work planning their "Raft Challenge".

I am very proud of how hard the students in 3/4E have been working. They did and excellent job of conducting an experiment and then writing a procedural writing piece based on the experiment. Here is an example of some of the writing:

Gravity drop experiment

Aim: How gravity effects objects falling from a chair.

Hypothesis:
I think all of the objects could take at least 40 milliseconds or 1 second to fall.

Materials:
·        Golf ball

·        Down ball

·        2x paper (Flat and scrunched)

·        Pompom

·        Stopwatch

·        Soft soccer ball

·        Marble

Method:
1)     First, step onto a chair.

2)     And then, get a one meter ruler.

3)     After that, get one piece of paper and scrunch it up so it is like a ball.

4)     Now, drop the object of your choice.

5)     Then, as soon as the object gets dropped you start the stopwatch.

6)     Finally, press the ends button on the stopwatch as soon as the object hits the ground and repeat this with every object.

Results:

Objects:
Time 1
Time 2
Time 3
Golf ball
99 ml
57ml
48ml
Down ball
38ml
43ml
55ml
Paper
1.47
1.35
1.49
Pompom
31ml
58ml
55ml
Soft soccer ball
34ml
74ml
73ml
Scrunched paper
34ml
64ml
72ml
Marble
60ml
46ml
57ml

Conclusion:
There were only 3 drops that took 1 second, also 3 different things that took 40 milliseconds and the times were 1.47, 1.35, 1.49 and the 40 milliseconds were 46ml, 48ml and 43 milliseconds.

The 3/4E students have had a fun start to Term 2. In the first week back our class baked ANZAC Biscuits. The students really enjoyed baking and enjoyed tasting the biscuits even more. It was fantastic having help from some of the parents on the day. I think the parents enjoyed the baking and tasting of ANZAC biscuits too.

Looking back at Term 1 2017

Term 1 - 2017

This has been an incredible term. The children in 3/4E have settled in really well and have so much to be proud of. They have had a very busy term and have done a great job. I am so proud of the progress made by every child in the class and have really enjoyed getting to know everyone. I am super excited for what this year holds for the children in my class.

Events

We have had some exciting events including a ""Footy Clinic" and "The Mr Stink" excursion. Our class enjoyed reading "Charlie and The Chocolate Factory" and are all looking forward to watching the movie.

Highlights

Some highlights were the Family Tree projects and Campfire stories. The children really enjoyed looking at each other's projects and learning all about other people's families. This was a great opportunity for them to discover some similarities amongst class mates.

The presentation of our campfire stories was so much fun. I think we all learnt a lot about each other and enjoyed the time to share happy, sad, interesting, funny and serious memories that meant something important to the children in 3/4E. It was lovely to see the children listening intently to each other and appreciating the information that was shared.

I hope that everyone has a fantastic holiday filled with lots of fun and excitement! I am looking forward to hearing all about it next term.

Have Fun!
